Dr. James McLaren is a highly skilled Endometriosis and Advanced Laparoscopic Surgeon, having trained at King’s College Hospital, London, a leading centre for minimally invasive gynaecological surgery. He has extensive experience in managing complex conditions such as endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, and chronic pelvic pain.

He holds a Bachelor in Endoscopic Surgery and was appointed Faculty Member for the Gynaecological Endoscopic Surgical and Assessment (GESEA) Course, reflecting his commitment to surgical excellence.

Dr McLaren is the Clinical Lead for Gynaecological services and member of the Advanced Laparoscopic team at Mater Mother’s Hospital.

vNOTES Hysterectomy

 

Dr. James McLaren is a leading advocate for Vaginal Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery (vNOTES), an advanced minimally invasive technique for hysterectomy. He pioneered the introduction of vNOTES at both King’s College Hospital and Mater Hospital, expanding access to this innovative approach.

Dr. McLaren has also shared his expertise as a guest speaker at the Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery (AGES) Annual Scientific Meeting, contributing to the advancement of vNOTES within the surgical community.

Dr. James McLaren has extensive experience in fertility surgery, having worked closely with King’s Fertility, London in the management of complex reproductive cases. He specialises in evidence-based surgical techniques aimed at optimising fertility outcomes.

Dr. McLaren collaborates closely with fertility specialists at Life Fertility and across Brisbane, ensuring a comprehensive, collegiate, multidisciplinary approach to patient care.

Abnormal Cervical Smear Tests

 

Dr. James McLaren is an expert in cervical pathology and preventative care, gaining his accreditation through British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP).

Dr. McLaren currently serves as Clinical Lead for Colposcopy and Gynaecological Services at Mater Hospital South Brisbane, where he oversees the delivery of high-quality cervical screening and colposcopy services.

Education and Mentorship

 

As the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) Trainee Representative, Dr. James McLaren developed UK guidelines for laparoscopic simulation training and founded an intermediate laparoscopic course to support trainee development.

Now based in Australia, he continues his dedication to medical education as a RANZCOG Educational Supervisor and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Queensland. At Mater Mother’s Hospital, he actively mentors medical students and specialist trainees, providing expert guidance and hands-on surgical training to the next generation of specialists.
